BBMV Awarded Crossrail Whitechapel Main Station Works worth £110million
BBMV, a joint venture of Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall and VINCI Construction, today announces it has been awarded the Whitechapel Main Station Works Crossrail contract worth £110million.
The project is scheduled to commence in January 2012 and due to be completed in 2018.
The project is split in three distinct parts including construction of the new Whitechapel Station in the existing Hammersmith & City and District Line cutting, a new station and bridge concourse in and over the East London Line cutting and a new ticket hall behind the retained building fronting on Whitechapel Road. The works will also include the shafts and platforms for the Crossrail tunnels plus related architecture and mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure.
The Piling will be carried out in-house by Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering and Bachy Soletanche. The M&E work will be installed by Balfour Beatty Engineering Services working with Morgan Sindall Professional Services.
Neil Barnes, BBMV Board director, said: "The BBMV joint venture is delighted to be awarded the Whitechapel Main Station Works Crossrail contract, which follows our award of the Whitechapel and Liverpool Street Station Tunnels in January. BBMV combines the expertise of three leading civil engineering companies and offers our customer unparalleled expertise and experience.
"We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively together to deliver a fantastic end result of which London can be proud."
The Crossrail project is a major new rail link scheme designed to provide a world-class, affordable railway with high frequency, convenient and accessible services across the capital. It will, once completed, connect the City and Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport to commuter areas east and west of London.
